Search Report For Sunday 3/3/19

It was wet and windy,  even so ten club members decided to face the elements and it was not too bad as rain was quite light with a warm but strong drying wind.

On arrival at site there was some concern from the owner about parking space and a number of us parked in road outside the stables.

A further five radios were issued on the day, this means most of regular searchers now have them. The radios proved very useful on this search as I was called back to stables to plicate some of the equine fraternity, who had concerns about us digging holes. Also I was able let Stuart know I was leaving early. The only drawback was that we had chatter from a near by event, so we may have to change our access code.

Digging conditions were good about four inches of soil, the sub soil consisted of pebbles thus most finds were near the surface. The fields searched were clean and free from contamination.

As for finds, quite a lot of WW2 shrapnel scattered around, but also some good finds. Early in the day a 1894 silver halfcrown was found in fine condition, there were also a number of smaller silver coins. A nice old crotal bell and a large number of copper coins in fair condition.

I have spoken to the landowner today, he is quite happy to let us search on his land in the future.
