Search Sunday 16th March 2014 – Spring is Sprung!

Was the best turn-out for some time. Everyone met at the meeting point as arranged, more and more were pulling up in their vehicles.

9.30am came and we all headed to the farm.

The morning session went by and most met back at the cars for lunch. To every-ones surprise Pierre had laid on hotdogs and drinks.

The finds were being showed to each other, (while lunch was going down a treat). Andrew realises he had lost his pin-pointer so a couple of people went to help find it, luckily it was found within 10 minutes. That made the count for pin-probes lost and found during the weekend three, as well as a hand digger lost.

We go out searching and end up losing more than we find HAHA.

Then back to the fields to search again.

In all a really good days detecting for every-one, with the sun shining. Report from Pierre

16th March 2014 was a complete contrast to 2013. Warm sunshine greeted the 21 members who attended the Farm where we now have access to a very large area of previously undetected ground. A smaller group had been out the previous day and reports of hammered coins and Pierre’s Henry vi half groat whetted the appetite. The ground is drying out now and digging was easy without being messy. Amongst the finds were; Roman, hammered including a Scottish sixpence, Chas 1, William, George 1, Vickies of various dates, a George 111 cartwheel, several late Edward and George, musket balls. tokens, a cap badge, lead weights, a possible flint tool – and no decimal reported! All-in-all a good day and very promising for the future. But all those fields were planted so it could be some time before we get access again.

A FURTHER REMINDER OF THE WORKING PARTY ON 29TH MARCH – PLEASE LEND A HAND. GOOD WILL GOES A LONG WAY.
