Christmas party – Friday 14th December, 2012

Firstly, I should like to thank all those members and their guests (20+) who turned up to make the Christmas party such a fun event.

I have some photos but unfortunately, the camera went wrong so they are all rather orange!

Members supplied a splendid array of food that was enjoyed throughout the evening.

The final competitions of the year were judged and the points added to reveal the Finder of the Year – it was a nail bitingly close result which Gill (185 points) just piping Ken (183 points) to the first place by two points – I’m not sure we have ever had such a close result.

What do you know about James Bond films was the quiz for the evening – fiendishly concocted by Ken and Gill.

The raffle was a triumph – there being so many prizes that some were kept for the next raffle event.

Judging took place for the Coin of the Year, the Artefact of the Year and the Eyes-only find of the Year.

The clear winner in the Artefact was John B’s Bronze Age palstave fragment.

The clear winner in the Eyes-Only was Geoff’s Neolithic pointed blade.

However, the Coin of the Year was not so clear! After the first round of voting it was a tie between Gill’s Philip and Mary sixpence and John’s George IV sixpence both getting 7 votes a piece. The four members who voted for other coins were then asked to vote again between these two entries and Gill’s coin got 3 out of the 4 votes making it the winner. Hard luck John!
