This article (left click on image to enlarge) was published in a 1996 issue of Eureka – the club’s hard copy magazine published prior to the advent of this website.

It caught my eye not only from the interest point of view but also because the swan (?) image looked familiar. Something tells me I have seen it, or something very similar, on a button – not one of my finds.

On another subject: I think it was last year that we searched at Nags Hall Farm – on the A25 east of Godstone. Land where point-to-point races are held.

There was a good turnout and some reasonable stuff was found. I have tried to arrange another visit but unfortunately have been unable to contact the owner. It’s a mystery why he has not at least responded.

Don’t forget that, thanks to Mac’s research, we have another guest speaker on 20th May so please make the effort to attend. And don’t forget to wear your name badge. I will bring more for those of you who have yet to be “pinned”.

Chairman Joe.

Friday Evening Meeting – 15th April, 2016

Thank you to everyone who turned up on Friday to hear Gordon Bailey talk about his finds.

Gordon’s talk was very informative and we all enjoyed finding out about some of his more interesting objects and the research he has undertaken to discover what they are.

We look forward to welcoming Gordon back again in the future for further interesting talks.

Hi everyone, as a fairly new member not sure if this is the way to send a message to everyone but on April 17th I shall be putting myself through the ordeal of running in the Brighton marathon (26.2 miles)

I am running on behalf of Macmillan Cancer Support and would very grateful if anyone would like to sponsor me via the ‘justgiving’ link…..that way all the money goes straight to the charity……if you would like to sponsor me you can do so by clicking on the following link and hit the donate button

You may have to type the link in on your computer to access it…….many thanks

PS….I hope there’s not a dig that I’m missing that weekend !!

AGM – Friday 18th March, 2016

We had a good turn out of members to the AGM on Friday evening and several new members joined the club for the first time.

We elected our Officers and Committee for the coming year and presented our trophies. Congratulations to Alan who won both the Any Sites Artefact and Any sites Coin Trophies for his Roman silver snake ring and his gold stater.

Worth Watching

If your optimism is flagging then watch Digging For Britain, BBC4 9pm 17th March, and watch, doubtless with the green eye of envy, as an Anglo-Saxon hoard of silver coins is unearthed. I find the programme very watchable – give it a go.
